England spinner Shoaib Bashir received his maiden international call-up for the five-match Test series against India, starting January 25.

Early career beginnings

Born in 2003, Bashir began his career with Surrey at 17 and later played for Somerset. He made his first big impression against England legend Alastair Cook.

A look at his First-Class stats

In six First-Class Test matches, he has taken 10 wickets at an average of 67. Bashir claimed three wickets in seven List A matches.

2023 championship performance

Bashir impressed during the 2023 County Championship, despite only taking 10 wickets in six matches. His high-arm action and tall frame make him unique from others.

Four spinners in the squad

Uncapped spinners Bashir and Tom Hartley join Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed in the squad. England's spin quartet will be very important in Indian conditions.
