Shakib Al Hasan has been named Bangladesh's new ODI captain, confirmed by BCB president Nazmul Hassan.

The veteran all-rounder Shakib will lead the team in the upcoming Asia Cup and the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India which is scheduled in October-November.

Shakib takes over as captain from Tamim Iqbal, becoming the designated captain for Bangladesh across all formats, with Litton Das continuing as vice-captain.

Shakib previously captained Bangladesh in 50 ODIs including the 2011 ODI World Cup. He has guided them to 23 wins while suffering 26 losses.

Shakib Al Hasan's individual performance as captain remains strong, having scored 1,547 runs and scalped 68 wickets in these 50 ODI matches.
