Pooran steps down as West Indies’ limited overs captain

Captaincy

Nicholas Pooran has stepped down as limited-overs captain of West Indies after the side suffered a first-round exit from the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.

Pooran took over from Kieron Pollard

Pooran took the reins from Kieron Pollard earlier this year following the latter's retirement from international cricket. WI won just eight out of 30 internationals under Pooran (full-time captain).

WI crashed out of the 2022 T20 WC

The two-time T20 World Cup champions could not even qualify for the Super 12 round, losing to Scotland and Ireland in the first round. Their only win in the tournament came against Zimbabwe.

Who will replace Pooran?

CWI hasn't announced Pooran's replacement in both formats. Rovman Powell and Shai Hope are the front-runners for the role, given they are the vice-captains in T20Is and ODIs, respectively.
