Neeraj Chopra

Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra has been
ruled out of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
He hasn’t achieved full fitness after getting
injured in the World Athletic Championship
finals.

Injury

Chopra suffered a groin injury during the
final. The Indian athlete underwent an MRI
scan thereafter. He has been advised one-
month rest by the doctors.

Silver

Last week, Chopra clinched the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene (men's javelin throw final). He finished second with a best throw of 88.13m.

Flag-bearer

Chopra, the Tokyo Games gold-medalist, was picked as India's flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

Record

Earlier this month, Chopra broke his national record at the Stockholm Diamond League
with a throw of 89.94m.

Gold medal

In 2021, Chopra became the second Indian
to clinch an individual Olympic gold (Tokyo
Games) after former shooter Abhinav Bindra.
