Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra has been ruled out of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He hasn’t achieved full fitness after getting injured in the World Athletic Championship finals.
Injury
Chopra suffered a groin injury during the final. The Indian athlete underwent an MRI scan thereafter. He has been advised one- month rest by the doctors.
Silver
Last week, Chopra clinched the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene (men's javelin throw final). He finished second with a best throw of 88.13m.
Flag-bearer
Chopra, the Tokyo Games gold-medalist, was picked as India's flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
Record
Earlier this month, Chopra broke his national record at the Stockholm Diamond League with a throw of 89.94m.
Gold medal
In 2021, Chopra became the second Indian to clinch an individual Olympic gold (Tokyo Games) after former shooter Abhinav Bindra.
