New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson will miss the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup opener against England due to an unresolved knee injury.
He sustained the injury while playing for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2023.
In his absence, Tom Latham will lead New Zealand in the opener.
Williamson has scored 6,554 runs in 161 ODIs and played crucial roles in NZ's last two ODI World Cup campaigns.
The upcoming tournament could see him become the third NZ player to complete 1,000 ODI World Cup runs, joining Stephen Fleming and Ross Taylor.
