Joe Root misses out on twin centuries

Joe Root was brilliant in the second Test against New Zealand, but the visitors lost by one run. Root scored 153 and 95, missing out on becoming the 12th England batter to smash twin Test centuries.

Feat for Root

He has now raced to 10,948 runs at 50.22 in Tests and 45 centuries in international cricket. Among England batters, only Alastair Cook (12,472) owns more Test runs.

Rescuing the ship

Root and Harry Brook steadied the ship with a 302-run stand for the fourth wicket in the first innings. England declared at 435/8.

Kane leads NZ win

New Zealand posted 483 in the second innings, with Kane Williamson scoring 132.

England fell short of the 258-run target and suffered a one-run defeat.
