Root reaches 11,500 Test runs

Joe Root recently completed 11,500 runs in Test cricket during the fourth Test against India in Ranchi. He became the 10th batter overall in this format to get to this milestone.

Second Englishman to achieve this feat

The accomplishment makes Root the second England batter and 10th player overall to reach this milestone. Only former England captain Alastair Cook with 12,472 runs is ahead of him.

A look at his impressive numbers

Root has played 139 Tests, averaging over 49 with 30 tons and 60 fifties. He has hammered five double centuries, only behind  Wally Hammond's tally of seven double centuries for England.

Top run-getter against India in Tests

Root is the highest run-getter in Test cricket against India. He surpassed Ricky Ponting's (2,555) tally in the series opener in Hyderabad. He owns 2,600-plus runs in 29 Tests against India.

Struggles in the current tour

However, Root has struggled during England's current tour of India, with low scores in recent matches. He has scored 29, 2, 5, 16, 18 and 7 in this series in three matches.

1,000 Test runs in India

During the Vizag Test, Root completed 1,000 Test runs in India. He became the second Englishman to achieve this feat after Cook (1,235). Only three other batters have achieved this feat in India.
