Ben Stokes has been sidelined due to persistent injuries and is unlikely to feature for Chennai Super Kings in the final stage of IPL 2023.

CSK signed decorated all-rounder Stokes for Rs. 16.25 crore, but his knee issue has kept him from bowling, a concern for England before the Ashes.

Stokes' IPL struggles

Stokes has not played for CSK in IPL 2023 since April 3, after scoring 7 and 8 runs in the first two matches and conceding 18 runs from one over.

Stokes labeled 'batting cover'

CSK coach Stephen Flemming labeled Stokes as a 'batting cover' due to the team's mainstay overseas players. CSK are not looking to make changes during the tournament.

Stokes leaves India early

England's red-ball cricket captain, Stokes, will leave India before the IPL 2023 playoffs due to a knee issue. There are concerns over James Anderson's fitness too for the one-off Test against Ireland.

England's Ashes campaign starts on June 16 at Edgbaston, with the second Test at Lord's. Headingley, Old Trafford, and the Oval will host the remaining Tests.
