Cummins appointed Australia’s 50-over captain

Captaincy

Pat Cummins has been handed the reins for the Australia men's ODI team. Cummins, who also captains the Test side, will now have dual responsibilities on his shoulders.

Development

Cricket Australia (CA) had thought of appointing two national captains instead of three after Finch's ODI retirement. Cummins being handed over the ODI captaincy was the best move available.

Leadership group

Cummins will be supported by a number of leaders underneath rather than a solitary vice-captain, who could possibly lead the side in the games the speedster is rested.

Cummins’ first assignment as captain

Post the ongoing T20 WC, Australia will compete in a three-match ODI series against England. Australia's next set of ODIs aren't until March when they will square off against India and Afghanistan.

Cummins’ record as Test captain

Cummins was handed the Test captaincy right before the Ashes 2021-22. He led the Kangaroos to an emphatic 4-0 win, followed by a 1-0 win in Pakistan, and a 1-1 series draw in Sri Lanka.
