Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal restored the country's cricket board, previously sacked by sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe after a humiliating loss to India in the 2023 WC.

Court quashes minister's decision

The court quashed the minister's decision to sack the board and form a new interim committee. They instead reinstated the board while a full hearing is pending.

President Silva's petition

Sri Lanka cricket board president Shammi Silva successfully sent a petition to the court, thwarting Ranasinghe's plans of forming a new committee.

Allegations of corruption

The sports minister Ranasinghe has been at odds with the board over multiple corruption allegations. He has also raised ethical issues with the board officials.

Ranatunga vows to clear SL's image

Meanwhile, former World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga, who was set to lead the interim committee, vowed to restore Sri Lankan cricket's reputation.

Despite a strong showing in the qualifiers, Sri Lanka have struggled in the 2023 World Cup. Currently ranked eighth and are fighting for a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
