Dier joins Bayern

Bayern Munich have signed Eric Dier on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, with an option for a further year. Bayern desperately needed someone to bolster their backline.

Tuchel values versatility

Dier's versatility will aid manager Thomas Tuchel, who values the player's experience. Dier started his career as a defensive midfielder before becoming a centre-back.

Not in Postecoglou's plans

Dier made over 350 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur but he fell out of favor with the new manager Ange Postecoglou. He featured in only four matches this season.

Dier joined Tottenham from Sporting CP in 2014. It is in North London that he transitioned from defensive midfielder to central defender.

Impressive Premier League stats for Dier

Dier made 247 Premier League appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists. He kept 86 clean sheets. He also completed 356 successful tackles, 341 interceptions, and 902 clearances.

Trophy less at Spurs

Despite reaching three cup finals with Spurs, Dier failed to secure any titles. He reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2018-19 where Spurs finished as runners-up.
