Twitter has launched the first version of the encrypted direct messages (DMs) feature. It is only available to users who have subscribed to the paid Twitter Blue program.
2
Feature
To send or receive encrypted messages, Twitter mandates that both the sender and recipient must be verified users.
3
Mandate
The recipient of encrypted DMs must follow the sender, should have sent a message to the sender before, or accepted a DM request from the sender.
4
Secure message labeling
The sender of the encrypted message will be able to see a lock icon badge next to the avatar of the user they are talking to.
5
Limitation
Currently, Twitter allows users to send encrypted DMs to only one person. The platform promises to expand the feature to group conversations in the future.
