Scientists build robot that can fly

By Sanjana Shankar

1

Shape-shifting robot

Caltech scientists have created a bio-inspired robot named 'Morphobot' that can change shape to navigate through various environments.

2

Design

Morphobot has four legs, each with two joints and fans at their ends. It is powered by a Jetson Nano CPU, NVIDIA's miniature computer.

3

Transitions

The fans can quickly transition to serve as legs, propeller thrusters, or wheels for the robot to suit the needs of the moment.

4

Capabilities

Morphobot can perform eight types of motion including walking, driving, climbing steep slopes, flying, crawling, and even tumbling to avoid obstacles.

5

Applications

The robot could help in rescue operations after natural disasters, in space exploration missions, and in automated delivery services.
