Nokia plans to launch 4G on the Moon

Lunar 4G launch planned

Nokia plans to launch 4G services on the Moon, in order to assist lunar discoveries. The LTE network could be launched by the end of the year.

Significance

Nokia's 4G infrastructure promises to "revolutionize lunar surface communications" and will be imperative for future lunar missions, especially NASA's Artemis program.

Lunar 4G networking

Nokia's 4G network will be supported by a solar-powered rover and an antenna-equipped base station kept in a lunar lander.

Moon docking

The 4G infrastructure will dock at the Shackleton crater region, located on the southern side of the Moon, according to Nokia.

Communication

Nokia's 4G network will assist in transmitting data between astronauts and mission controllers, and will "provide critical communication capabilities."
