Meteors
The Geminids are bright and fast meteors, with a speed of 35km/s, per NASA. Under ideal viewing conditions, up to 120 meteors can be seen per hour.
3
Origin
Unlike other meteor showers which are caused due to comets, Geminids originate from an asteroid, namely 3200 Phaethon.
4
Radiant
The radiant or the point in the sky from which the Geminids seem to originate is the constellation Gemini. This is also where the meteor shower gets its name from.
5
Destiny mission
Japan's upcoming DESTINY+ mission in 2025 will study 3200 Phaethon and its cosmic dust for more insights.

Viewing tips
For the best view of the Geminids, choose a dark location away from light pollution. The best time for catching the shooting stars will be post 10pm.
