European Parliament passes draft AI Act

The EU has passed a draft version of the AI Act, which will regulate the usage of artificial intelligence in the region.

Parliament approved

European Parliament gave its nod to the draft AI Act, which was proposed by the European Commission in 2019. The final version won't be passed soon.

Transparency

The draft version of the AI Act requires AI companies to disclose copyrighted material and implement safeguards to prevent the generation of illegal content.

Risk-based

The AI Act follows a risk-based approach. EU mandates risk assessments for "high-risk" AI systems used in critical infrastructure and law enforcement.

Facial recognition

AI Act will ban real-time facial recognition, biometric data scraping, and devices that exhibit cognitive behavioral manipulation.
