Scientists have recorded the brightest Gamma Ray Burst (GRB), and have termed it BOAT (brightest of all time).
2
Explosions
GRBs, which are massive explosions, generate more energy in seconds than our Sun will produce in its 10-billion-year lifespan.
3
Brightest GRB ever
Dubbed GRB 221009A, the explosion was 70 times brighter than the ones observed so far. It may be the brightest GRB to reach our planet since human civilization began.
4
GRB types
GRBs are classified into short and long types. Short GRBs result from neutron star collisions, while long GRBs come from black holes formed by collapsing massive stars.
5
Supernova
Since GRB 221009A was a longGRB, researchers expect to see a supernova, the bright super-powerful explosion of a dying star. But they have not found one yet.
