ISRO aims to launch the Lunar Sample Return Mission (LSRM) within the next five to seven years.
2
Objective
The upcoming mission aims to gather soil or rock samples from the Moon and return them to Earth.
3
Mission modules
LSRM will consist of four main modules: Transfer module, Lander module, Ascender module, and Re-entry module. The mission will use two distinct launch vehicles.
4
Sampling
A robotic arm will gather samples at the Shiv Shakti point on the lunar surface, where Chandrayaan-3 Vikram Lander touched down.
5
Sample transfers
The samples will be transferred between modules before returning to Earth.
6
2028 launch goal
Slated for a 2028 launch, the mission will advance India's space exploration efforts and build on insights gained from previous Chandrayaan missions.
