World Parkinson's Disease Day: Care tips

By Anujj Trehaan

1

Oral health and grooming

Replacing traditional toothbrushes and shavers with electronic ones can help patients who experience stiffness in their daily activities.

2

Personal hygiene and bathing

People with Parkinson's disease should avoid using bath tubs. Instead, they should use a stool to sit on and bathe under a shower or running tap for safety.

3

Dressing

Elastic, easy-to-put-on garments with minimum buttons/zips should be worn. Anti-skid footwear should be purchased to prevent falls.

4

Food

Parkinson's patients can experience constipation often, so offer them fiber-rich food. Feed them calcium to prevent osteoporosis. Also, give them food that's easy to swallow and digest.

5

Activities

Meditation and some breathing techniques can help them relax their symptoms, while activities like listening to music and painting (if they can) amp up their mood.
