Most common rice varieties in the world

Arborio rice

Arborio is Italy's contribution to the world of rice. With a good water-absorbing capacity, its flavor is slightly on the sweeter side. It's mostly used to cook risotto and rice puddings.

Basmati rice

Basmati is from India. It's aromatic, offers a nutty flavor, and is available in both white and brown variants. On the health front, it's low in calories and fat content.

Black rice

Featuring an earthy and nutty flavor, black rice garners attention for its low glycemic index which makes it suitable for diabetics to consume. It originated in Asia about 10,000 years ago.

Koshihikari rice

Koshihikari rice, also called short-grain rice, hails from Japan. A sticky and chewy offering, you can make Japanese dishes like sushi and onigiri with it.

Rice paper

Rice paper is a staple food in Vietnam. It is used to make a whole lot of appetizers like spring rolls by wrapping various ingredients and stuffings in it.
