How to reduce indoor humidity

By Rishabh Raj

1

Ventilation fans

Turn on your exhaust or ventilation fans when you are taking a steamy shower or cooking in the kitchen. Instead of switching them off right away, let them run a bit longer.

2

Dehumidifiers

A dehumidifier in your furnace's air handler effectively reduces indoor humidity during monsoon, providing a comfortable and refreshing breeze with low moisture.

3

Humidity-absorbing plants

Houseplants like Boston ferns, peace lilies, Areca Palms, English Ivies, and spider plants can combat indoor humidity while purifying the air by absorbing harmful chemicals.

4

Fix leakages

Leaking pipes, faucets, and ceilings can add unwanted moisture, making the situation worse. Watch out for signs like stains on walls or ceilings, wet patches, or higher water bills.

5

Some more tips

Cover your saucepans while cooking. After taking a shower, wipe down your bathroom surfaces and any other surface that has moisture. If you spot mold or mildew, clean it immediately.
