5 myths about obesity

By Anujj Trehaan

1

Obese people should eat less and move more

Obesity is caused by more than just overeating, including factors such as hormonal imbalance, lack of sleep, stress, and chronic pain. Overeating is a symptom rather than the sole cause of obesity.

2

Obese people are lazy and inactive

Obese or not, anyone with a sedentary lifestyle can become lazy. Obese folks just need more energy to do a physical activity than the ones with a healthy weight.

3

Obesity runs in the family

Genetics is a factor in obesity but it doesn't determine if you will be obese. Lifestyle changes and healthy habits can help prevent obesity, even with a family history of it.

4

Obese people lack the willpower to lose weight

Losing weight is not just a matter of willpower as obesity can be caused by social, psychological, and environmental factors beyond one's control.

5

Obese people are less attractive than their partners/friends

The misconception that obese people are less attractive than their partners or friends needs to be busted as beauty and worth should not be solely based on physical appearance.
