Who was music composer Peter Schickele

Legendary music composer and parodist Peter Schickele passed away at 88 in Bearsville, New York. He had been unwell since last year.

Beginnings 

Born in Iowa in 1935, Schickele studied music at Swarthmore College and earned a master's degree from the Juilliard School.

Career 

He composed over 100 original works for various mediums, including symphony orchestras, choral groups, school bands, as well as films.

P.D.Q Bach creator

Schickele is best known for creating the fictional composer P.D.Q. Bach, attributing comical rearrangements of other composers' works to him.

Thoughts

In an interview, Schickele said, "The purpose of music is to be beautiful. I am not like some pop composer who's anxious to get that number one hit."
