Texas rapper Big Pokey dead at 45

Intro

Houston rapper Big Pokey (Milton Powell) has passed away at 45. On Saturday, he collapsed while performing at Pour 09 Bar in Beaumont. He was rushed to the hospital but breathed his last on Sunday.

Statement

A statement was posted on his Instagram account on Sunday which informed his fans about his untimely demise. The cause of death has not been made public yet.

Tributes

The Pour 09 Bar paid tribute to him and urged people to send prayers for him and his family. They also said they "will not comment" on the incident right away.

Career

Pokey was one of the trailblazers of the chopped-and-screwed genre of music, and worked on six full-length studio albums in his career, with 'Sensei' being his last album in 2021.

Screwed Up Click

Pokey was also one of the earliest members of the hip-hop collective Screwed Up Click, which was led by the late DJ Screw.
