Robbie Robertson, Canadian musician, guitarist, songwriter and leader of The Band, passed away Wednesday night at 80 after a long illness. We look back at his legacy.

Association with The Band
As a co-founder, he nourished The Band (formerly the Hawks)—which was essentially active from 1967 to 1977. Some of the songs he penned are 'The Weight' and 'Up on Cripple Creek.'

In 2003, he made it to Canada's Walk of Fame and in 2006, he was felicitated with the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement—Canada's highest performing arts honor.
