Revisiting Prabhu Deva's 'Rowdy Rathore'

Intro

On Prabhu Deva's 50th birthday, we revisit his 2012 action film 'Rowdy Rathore.' It starred Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Nassar, and Yashpal Sharma, and was a box-office blockbuster.

Plot

'Rowdy Rathore' was the remake of 'Vikramarkudu' (2006). It revolves around Shiva, a thief, whose life gets entangled with that of his lookalike Vikram, a cop.

'Masala' movie

The film's success was due to its incorporation of essential elements of a Hindi 'masala' movie: action, romance, comedy, music, and drama.

Kumar's double role

Not only did Kumar play a dutiful cop, but also the polar opposite: a small-time Mumbai-based thief. Both characters were brave, courageous, and selfless.
