Kathmandu mayor lambasts Nepal Court

A Nepal Court has cleared the way for 'Adipurush's release, asking theaters to not stop the screening of films passed by the censor board. However, Kathmandu's Mayor has refused to follow the order.

Mayor's statement

Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah said that Nepal's decision to release the film despite the uproar and the brief ban implies that 'the court and the government are slaves of India.'

Punishment

He further said that he won't comply with the order and is willing to face any punishment. The controversy is about a dialogue that says Janaki is "India's daughter."

Revised 'Adipurush' dialogues

'Adipurush's dialogues were revised after they received backlash for being offensive and "cheapjack." The revised version is now playing in theaters.

The film stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan and was reportedly made with a budget of Rs. 500cr. It received a bumper opening at the box office despite negative reviews.
