Before 'Princess Diaries 3' arrives, know all about Disney franchise

'The Princess Diaries' (2001)

The first film was based on Meg Cabot's novel. It introduced us to Mia (Anne Hathaway), a teenager who discovers she is second in line to the throne of Genovia.

'Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement' (2004)

As the name suggests, the second film, set five years later from the first, followed Mia's life as she tackles a hoard of suitors.

New film

Debra Martin Chase, who produced the first two films, is returning for the third. Aadrita Mukerji has been roped in to write the script, per reports. But will the original cast return?

Cast

In 2019, Hathaway said both she and Julie Andrews (who played her grandmother aka the Queen) wanted to do a third film. Andrews has always been supportive, too. Fingers are crossed!
