Akshay Kumar has addressed his Canadian citizenship in an interview. He revealed that he has applied for a change of passport once he gets the renounced status from Canada.

He stated that "India is everything" to him and he has "earned everything from here." He had planned to move to Canada when his films were flopping, but they eventually started performing better.

Netizens have often questioned Kumar's loyalty and love toward India. In 2019, he faced strong criticism for interviewing PM Narendra Modi ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Kumar had applied for an Indian passport around 2019 but then COVID-19 struck, and his plans got delayed for a really long time, but that'll change now.

Kumar had expressed his disappointment at people "constantly dragging his citizenship issue into needless controversy," and has often said that he is "an Indian at heart."

In 2019, Kumar posted a clarification on Twitter and wrote, "I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India and pay all taxes [here]."
