Uttara Baokar passes away at 79

Veteran actor Uttara Baokar passed away at the age of 79 due to a prolonged illness. Her last rites were performed on Wednesday.

'Tamas'

Govind Nihalani's 1988 film 'Tamas', based on Bhisham Sahni's novel, brought the limelight to Baokar's career. The period drama is set during India's Partition and features a star-studded cast.

'Ek Din Achanak'

Baokar won the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mrinal Sen's movie Ek Din Achanak based on a Bengali novel Beej.

'Doghi'

'Doghi', a 1995 Marathi movie starring the late actress Neena Kulkarni, won at least three National Awards including a Special Mention for Baokar's performance.
