Meta has struck a deal with Tencent to sell a new, low-cost virtual reality (VR) headset in China, as per a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report.
As the sole distributor, Tencent will sell Meta's VR headsets, competing with Bytedance's Pico VR.
The budget-friendly device will feature Tencent-developed games and applications, with sales starting in late 2024.
Meta is expected to secure a larger portion of the device sales revenue, while Tencent will earn more from content and services.
This deal enables Meta to re-enter the Chinese market after a 14-year hiatus after Facebook and Instagram were banned by China in 2009 following deadly riots in Xinjiang province.
