Foxconn launches satellites to LEO

Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn has launched two prototype low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites aboard a SpaceX rocket, marking its expansion into satellite technology.

Collaboration

Developed with Taiwan's National Central University, the satellites, which weigh 9kgs, are designed to orbit Earth at an altitude of 520km.

Objective

Foxconn's primary focus is on creating satellites for corporate and government clients, setting itself apart from SpaceX.

Expansion

Since taking charge, Foxconn Chairman Yang Liu has diversified the company's portfolio, targeting industries like electric vehicles, and communication satellites.

Contracts

Despite the less reliable outcomes of the satellite business, government contracts could offer stability to Foxconn.
