LED headlights are flooding the Indian market due to automakers' shift, but retrofitting them into halogen reflector setups is questionable. There are several safety hazards.
2
Danger of HID/LEDs
Many people are choosing aftermarket HID or LED bulbs to replace halogen bulbs but this can cause problems like glare and driver fatigue, and most people are unaware of headlamp rules.
3
Illegal
Indian law prohibits the use of halogen lamps with wattage greater than 70/75W in a 24V system or 60/65W in a 12V system, making it illegal to use higher wattage units.
4
Requirement
A reflector plate is used in traditional headlights to focus the light beam as halogen bulbs emit omnidirectional light. This does not work in case of LED units.
5
Designing
Automakers design headlamp assemblies according to the type of bulb specified for use, with halogen bulbs requiring narrower reflectors and LED units requiring wider beam mirrors.
