Zimbabwe ex-cricketer Guy Whittall cheats death after leopard attack
Former Zimbabwean cricketer Guy Whittall has once again narrowly escaped death. This time—he bravely defended himself and his dog against a leopard attack—sustaining injuries that required emergency surgery. In September 2013, Whittall had a startling encounter when he woke up to find an eight-foot crocodile sleeping beneath his bed. He had slept through the night with his legs hanging off the bed. The recent incident occurred while Whittall was trekking through the conservancy he manages in Zimbabwe's Humani region.
Whittall's wife says he is 'One lucky man'
The incident came to light after Whittall's wife, Hannah shared images of her husband receiving medical treatment with bandages around his head on social media. "He really is one lucky man, first he had the crocodile and now the leopard, he really is the cat with nine lives," she told Daily Mail. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Harare for further care. She also revealed that Whittall was recuperating well and sharing his experience from his hospital bed.
Whittall's pet dog, played a crucial role in saving him
Notably, Chikara, Whittall's pet dog, played a crucial role in saving him from the leopard. The dog sustained injuries while defending his owner and was taken to an animal hospital for treatment. "We are so grateful to him, and Chikara going to get some extra chicken as a treat," Stooks-Whittall said. She added that despite a few scratches, Chikara was in better shape than Whittall and expected to recover fully.
