Chinese woman has rare hearing loss, can't hear men's voices
Have you ever imagined how great it would be if your ears actually turn deaf towards an irritating man's voice? Well, you can get an idea from this Chinese woman's experience, who was recently diagnosed with a rare kind of a hearing loss in which she was not able to hear men's voices at all but could only hear women's. Here's what happened.
Woman slept with ringing in ears and nausea one night
The woman from Xiamen, identified as Chen, was recently diagnosed with the rare hearing loss. She slept the night before with ringing in her ears and nausea, hoping a good night's sleep will cure it. However, in the morning, she was in utter shock when she wasn't able to hear her what her boyfriend was saying. Following this, she went straight to the hospital.
Chen could hear female doctor but not a male patient
At the hospital, doctors told media that Chen's symptoms were opposite to that of other common forms of hearing loss and they were confused. Dr. Lin Xiaoqing, a specialist, then took the matter in her hands. "She was able to hear me when I spoke to her, but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn't hear him at all," Dr. Xiaoqing said.
Doctor said Chen could only hear sounds of high frequency
Dr. Xiaoqing discovered that Chen was suffering from something called 'reverse-slope hearing loss' or 'low-frequency hearing loss'. This meant that Chen could only hear sounds of high frequency. As a woman's voice is usually high pitched than a man's, Chen was only able to hear women. The condition occurs to one in almost 13,000 patients with hearing problems, according to reports.
Doctor said Chen needed to undergo treatment quickly
Dr. Xiaoqing explained that often stress, fatigue, and sleep deprivation lead to such condition. It may also be genetical. She also said that Chen needed to undergo treatment quickly and is expected to come out with a full recovery soon.
Female netizens called the rare hearing loss a 'dream'

One netizen wrote, "I just heard on the news that there's a woman who has a medical condition where she literally can't hear men's voices. What a dream."
