Virginia State University is on lockdown following a shooting on the campus at 8:25pm (local time).

The incident reportedly took place during a hip-hop concert on the final day of VSU's homecoming.

At least one person was injured and has life-threatening injuries; he is being treated at a local hospital.

Police are on the scene and people have been asked to avoid the area.

Shooting on campus isolated incident: VSU Police

Police said VSU remains on lockdown; the suspect is on the loose.

They released a possible description of the suspect: a black male wearing white jersey with number "23" in blue.

However, this information is still being verified.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident; there could be no further threat to VSU.

Several fights reportedly broke out at VSU following the shooting.
