Anti-porn crusader US Senator Ted Cruz is trending for porn!
US Senator Ted Cruz faced an embarrassing situation when his verified Twitter account "liked" a two-minute video by @SexuallPosts on Monday. Even though the Texas Senator's tweet was "removed by staff and reported to Twitter," it was already widely circulated by then. Cruz has earlier defended the law banning sex toys and had spoken against masturbation. Read on to know more.
Who is Ted Cruz? Why is this an ironical situation?
Cruz, a former lawyer and 2016's Republican Presidential candidate, has had to deal with sex-related debates in the past. As Texas' solicitor general, Cruz helped write a brief defending the state's sex toys ban. While talking against masturbation, he said, "There is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one's genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship."
Cruz blames the "like" on a "staffing issue"
Cruz has blamed this incident on a "staffing issue" saying that it was "inadvertent" and "a mistake." He claimed that "a number of people" had access to his account. This incident mainly became awkward because of his credentials of supporting conservative family values. However, after he began trending he joked saying his reporters "should have done something like this during the Indiana primary."
Meanwhile, the Internet had a field day
Cruz was trending on the Internet with jokes, photoshopped images, memes and over 200,000 tweets dedicated to him. American TV host Jimmy Kimmel took to Twitter with sarcasm, "Well done @TedCruz using the power of "like" to illustrate the evils of porn #Weiner." Sportswriter Molly Knight commented that it was great that in divisive times, all Americans joined "to make fun of Ted Cruz."
