This porn star has sued President Trump over "alleged affair"
A former adult film actress has sued US President Donald Trump, claiming that his lawyer forced her to sign a statement in 2016 to stop her from going public about her alleged relationship with the then-Republican Presidential candidate, Trump. Stephanie Clifford, who is known as Stormy Daniels in the adult film industry, filed a lawsuit in a California State court yesterday. Here's more.
Stormy Daniels' intimate relationship with Trump began in 2006
Stephanie Clifford's 28-page lawsuit alleges that she was paid $130,000 by Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen to not to go public with her alleged sexual encounters with Trump when he was the Republican-Presidential candidate. Trump, however, has vehemently denied these allegations. The lawsuit said Clifford began an intimate relationship with Trump in the summer of 2006 in Lake Tahoe, which continued till 2007.
What does the lawsuit claim?
"Despite Trump's failure to sign the agreement, Cohen proceeded to cause $130,000 to be wired to the trust account of Clifford's attorney. He did so even though there was no legal agreement and thus no written non-disclosure-agreement whereby Clifford was restricted from disclosing the truth."
Clifford, Trump allegedly met at Beverly Hills Hotel bungalow
According to Stephanie Clifford's complaint, her relationship with Trump included, among other things, at least one meeting with him in a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel located in Los Angeles County. The complaint, released publicly by her attorney Michael Avenatti, said that on 28 October 2016, Clifford and Cohen signed the "Hush Agreement"; it, however, was not signed by Trump.
Attempts to shut Clifford up to protect Trump continue: Lawsuit
"To be clear, the attempts to intimidate Clifford into silence and 'shut her up'... to 'protect Trump' continue unabated," the lawsuit said. "On or about February 27, 2018, Trump's attorney Cohen surreptitiously initiated a bogus arbitration proceeding against Ms. Clifford in Los Angeles. Remarkably, he did so without even providing Ms. Clifford with notice of the proceeding and basic due process," it alleges.
Trump's personal lawyer acknowledges paying $130k to Stormy
Previously, Cohen had acknowledged that he paid $130,000 to Clifford from his own pocket as he was unable to locale Trump at that time. The Hush Agreement was signed before she was planning to go public with her information and the alleged relationship with Trump. The lawsuit among other things also uses an alias name for Donald Trump as David Dennison.
