China is taking care of our diplomats: Mike Pompeo
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo today said he has brought the situation to the notice of his Chinese counterpart State Councilor Wang Yi. "They have responded in a way that is exactly the right response. They've honored their commitment under the Vienna Convention to take care of the diplomats that are serving in their country, and we truly appreciate this," he said.
US and China working together over the situation
Pompeo said, China has offered to assist the US in investigating how this came to be. "The State Councilor Wang and I talked about how we can endeavour to figure out what happened here to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again in their country," he said. "We are working together to resolve it. I hope we can figure it out," Pompeo said.
China does not want this to be magnified or politicized
Wang said they haven't found any organization or individual that carried out such a sonic influence and suggested the US side can also carry out some internal investigation. He added they do not want to see that "this individual case will be magnified, complicated, or even politicized". "China will protect all the lawful rights of foreigners in China, especially those of diplomats," he said.
