Trump willing to talk to Kim Jong-un over phone

What's the story

US President Donald Trump has said the he would "absolutely" be willing to speak to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un over the phone and that he hopes that something positive comes out of the talks between North Korea and South Korea next week. On Friday, North Korea agreed to hold talks with South Korea, something which Trump said resulted from his steady pressure.

Trump and Kim had been exchanging insults for a while

Ever since Trump took office, the North Korean leader and Trump have exchanged insults, with Trump repeatedly calling Kim "rocket man" for testing ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons. Earlier this week, Trump replied to Kim's taunt about having a nuclear button by saying that he had a bigger button on his desk.

North Korea-South Korea talks to cover Winter Olympics

The talks between North Korea and South Korea are expected to cover inter-Korean relations and the Winter Olympics to be held in South Korea next month. Both countries have confirmed five representatives each. The North Korean delegation will be headed by Ri Son Gwon, head of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.
