US President Trump says he'll run for re-election in 2020
In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on Friday, US President Donald Trump said that he "fully intends" to run for re-election in 2020 because "everybody wants" him to. Trump added that he didn't see any Democrat candidate beating him, despite him knowing "them all". Trump's comments came during his UK visit, which is part of his ongoing Europe tour. Here's more.
Trump's comments on re-election in the Piers Morgan interview
"Well I fully intend to. It seems like everybody wants me to," said Trump to Morgan. On being asked about potential competition, Trump said, "I don't see anybody. I know them all and I don't see anybody."
Trump's Euro trip has been nothing short of uproarious
Trump's Euro trip has been nothing short of uproarious, and has seen him breach Royal protocol in the UK, rant at members of the NATO military alliance, launch a scathing attack at British Prime Minister Theresa May, and rebuke Germany for its reliance on Russian power. In the UK, particularly, Trump's visit saw widespread protests that even involved the very-noticeable six-metre-tall Trump baby balloon.
Trump spoke highly of the Queen, confirmed discussing Brexit
Trump, however, later apologized to British PM Theresa May for his comments, and said that he looks forward to the UK-US trade deal. During his interview with Piers Morgan, the US President had nothing but praise for the Queen, and even confirmed that he had discussed Brexit with her when they met for tea at Windsor Castle.
Trump can't stop calling the Queen "beautiful"
"She is an incredible woman, she is so sharp, she is so beautiful, when I say beautiful - inside and out. That is a beautiful woman. Just very elegant. And very beautiful. It was really something special," said Trump about his meeting with the Queen.
Trump is set to meet Vladimir Putin on Monday
Having completed most of his Euro trip, Trump is now set for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday at a summit in Helsinki, Finland. Trump's meeting with Putin has a chance of being overshadowed by allegations of Russian influence in the run-up, during, and after the 2016 US Presidential elections. Understandably, Trump was more guarded when commenting on the upcoming meeting.
Trump's comments on his upcoming meeting with Putin
"Somebody said are you [and Putin] friends or enemies? I said well it's too early to say. Right now I say we're competitors but for the United States...to get along with Russia and China and all of these other places...that's a good thing," said Trump.
