Trump's Oval Office is glitzy, gold, grand: Take a look
What's the story
US President Donald Trump has turned the Oval Office into a testament to his envisioned "Golden Age" for America.
The core sanctum of the US presidency is now decorated with gilded trophies, gold-plated Trump-branded coasters, and portraits of his predecessors on almost every wall.
Recently, Trump also added a copy of the Declaration of Independence to this showy makeover.
Unique style
Trump's Oval Office: A blend of studio and real estate
According to AFP, Trump's Oval Office approach harks back to his reality TV and real estate background.
"President Trump is very good at playing the role of Donald Trump," said Peter Loge, director of George Washington University's School of Media.
"The show is the point. Part of the show is the bling. It would be surprising if Trump did not remake the Oval Office into a TV set that reflected his brand."
Political message
Political symbolism in Trump's Oval Office makeover
Trump's redecoration of the Oval Office comes with a strong political message.
Hanging 19th-century president James Polk's portrait symbolizes territorial expansion, fitting Trump's recent talk of annexing Greenland and taking back the Panama Canal.
Unlike his predecessor Joe Biden, who opted for a more subdued decor with five portraits, Trump has added nine portraits around the fireplace, including that of Republican icon Ronald Reagan.
Personal touch
Trump's Oval Office: A showcase of his brand
Trump's Oval Office isn't just a political statement, it's a showcase of his brand.
A giant map denoting the "Gulf of America," a renamed Gulf of Mexico, has been permanently installed.
Trump is also said to be planning to pave over the iconic Rose Garden to give it a patio-like feel just like his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
Unusual portrait
Trump's unconventional addition is a 2023 mugshot
Perhaps one of the most unusual additions to Trump's Oval Office decor is a gold-framed photo of his 2023 mugshot.
The photo was taken during his booking in Georgia over alleged attempts to interfere with the 2020 election.
It hangs right outside the Oval Office.
This quirky touch drives home Trump's brand and image of strength, something that's been at the core of his politics.
