'Some people are animals': Donald Trump on illegal migrants
What's the story
US President Donald Trump today lashed out at illegal migrants during California Sanctuary State Roundtable at White House and branded them as "animals". He also vowed to strengthen the country's "weak" immigration law.
"We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in... You wouldn't believe how bad these people are. These aren't people. These are animals," Trump said.
Dumbest laws
US has dumbest laws on immigration in world, says Trump
President Trump blamed the influx of illegal immigrants in the US is due to the country's "dumbest laws" on the immigration.
He added that California's law provides safe haven to some of the most vicious and violent offenders, including members of transnational gangs like MS-13.
He exhorted his administration to "do much better" in keeping out these undesirable people.
Merit means a lot
We want people into US on merit-basis: Trump
Trump said he wanted people to come to the US legally and on merit basis.
"We want people to come into our country based on merit. We're not looking to keep them out. We're looking to bring them in. We need them," Trump said.
He asserted that many companies, even from Mexico, are moving back into the US like never before.
Executive order
US deployed military along US-Mexico border
Last month, Trump signed an executive order directing the deployment of the military along the US-Mexico border to fight illegal immigration, asserting that the situation had reached "a point of crisis".
The announcement had come a day after Trump said he intended to deploy the National Guard to the US-Mexico border until his administration was able to build a wall to bolster security.
Information
Over 1000 people entered America illegally on daily basis
According to the White House, more than a thousand people a day and more than 300,000 a year violate the country's "sovereignty" by illegally crossing the border.
