Top Tollywood producer arrested in US for sex-racket involving actresses
A Telugu businessman-turned-film producer and his wife were nabbed in Chicago, US, for allegedly running a sex racket by exploiting young and vulnerable actresses. According to the chargesheet, Modugumudi Kishan (34) and his wife Chandra (31) used to lure aspiring actresses from 'Tollywood' and put them up on offer to clients at Indian programs around the country. Clients were charged up to $3000 per encounter.
Couple used to threaten girls, keep them in dingy conditions
Kishan and Chandra used to lure the girls and make them stay in a dingy, two-story apartment building in Chicago's Belmont Cragin neighborhood while they waited for their next client. Kishan, who has co-produced several hits, used to threaten them and their families if they revealed the operations to law enforcement. The couple travelled across the US to meet clients.
When police launched raids, they found incriminating evidence
When police launched raids at their apartment, they found a ledger where Chandra used to record all details of the girls' sexual activities with clients, including where they occurred and how much they earned. Police also found several text messages on her phone where she was negotiating with clients over price. She would often send photos of the girls to the clients.
Couple was nabbed after months on the run
A case was filed months ago, but the couple was on the run. They were finally nabbed in April. However, the case came to light only after local media reported yesterday about the filing of a 42-page chargesheet. Kishan and Chandra are currently in federal custody. Their two school-going children have been shifted to the care of child welfare officials in Virginia.
