Time denies telling Trump he was "Person of the Year"
On Friday, US President Donald Trump tweeted that the Time magazine called to inform him that he was "probably" going to be named person of the year. Trump said he turned down the offer as he would be required to do a major photo shoot and an interview. However, Time has vehemently rejected the president's claims. Was Trump spreading the fake news?
Why Trump turned down 'probable' Person of the Year
Trump tweeted: "Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named "Man (Person) of the Year," like last year." However, "I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot," he added. "I said probably no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!"
Time rejects Trump's "incorrect" claim
"The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6," Time responded in a tweet.
Trump was placed second in "Person of the Year" poll
Last year, Trump received the Time "Person of the Year" honor after his presidential election win. Time had called him "President of the Divided States of America." Time is running a poll on December 3 asking readers who they consider this year's honoree. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is leading with 20% of the vote, followed with Trump at 5%.
