Thai cave rescue: Authorities, Navy SEALs installing Internet-cable, reducing water-level
Thai authorities are working with Navy SEALs to run an Internet cable into a flooded cave in northern Thailand where 12 young soccer players and their coach are trapped. Once the Internet cable is installed, parents will be able to talk to children, said communication technician Phoowanart Keawdum. Rescuers are continuing to drain water from wells to reduce water-levels inside the cave. Here's more.
All trapped persons can't be extracted at same time: Governor
"All 13 may not be extracted at the same time. If the person is ready 100%, he can come out," Chiang Rai provincial Governor Narongsak Osatanakorn said, adding that authorities will evaluate their readiness each day and if there is any risk will not proceed. Authorities are still determining the best way to get the team out of the cave, options that include diving.
Thai Navy continues to release the video of trapped boys
In the latest videos released by Thai navy, the boys and coach say they are fine. The two latest videos posted on a Navy Facebook page yesterday morning show a Navy SEAL treating minor cuts on the feet and legs of the boys with antibiotic ointment. Several of the boys are seen smiling as they interact with the Navy SEAL, who cracks jokes.
12 soccer players, coach entered cave on June 23
Officials said that teaching diving to 13 people may be the only way to get them out of the cave, but other options are being explored. The soccer teammates, stranded more than a week in a partly flooded cave, say they are healthy in a new video. The group had entered the cave on June 23 before floods cut off the main entrance.
