Teen cracks egg on mom for Facebook challenge, gets arrested
In a major case of Facebook challenge gone wrong, an 18-year-old high school student has been arrested. The teenager, Michael Corley, was accused of domestic assault after he cracked open an egg on his mother's head for a 'Facebook egg challenge'. He is now in police custody, serving jail time. Here are the details of the incident.
Corley said on Facebook he'd egg his mother
Corley, who studies at the Gulf High School, recently shared a Facebook post saying he'd egg his mother and record the scene if his post received 300 comments. However, when he performed the so-called challenge, a physical scuffle stirred between the mother-son duo, ultimately turning into a case of serious domestic battery. The mother, Carrie Lann, suffered from a lacerated back in the incident.
Mother says Corley threw her onto dining table
According to a report in the Tampa Bay Times, Corley followed through on his promise by breaking an egg on top of his mother's head. Infuriated by this, Lann responded by slapping him on the back of his head with an open hand. Corley, however, retaliated in return; he grabbed Lann and threw her onto the dining table, lacerating her back in the process.
Corley says it was all an accident
Corley admitted to performing the egg challenge but emphasized that he had already cracked the egg before smashing it on his mother's head. The teenager also claimed that he didn't slam Lann onto the table intentionally. He says he was startled by the slap while cleaning up the egg on the floor; he jumped up and knocked Lann to the table accidentally.
Lann claimed her boyfriend had to intervene
In her statement to the deputies, Lann claimed that Corley was upset with her because she took away his PlayStation, and her boyfriend had to intervene to prevent the ongoing scuffle between the two. However, Corley disputed this.
Online challenges aren't really worth the effort
Online challenges like the one we see here can be fun and tempting but there's a good chance that they may end up in serious incidents. We don't know what exactly happened in this case but Corley's quest for comments and social media attention wasn't really worth the effort. He is now in police custody and serving time at the Land O' Lakes Jail.
