Sushma Swaraj appeals Indians to evacuate Libyan capital, Tripoli, immediately
Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, yesterday urged Indians living in the capital city of Libya, Tripoli, to evacuate the country immediately. In her tweet, she also warned that getting Indians out of Libya in the future will not be easy as the violence in the city is escalating alarmingly. Political instability and violence have affected the capital city of Libya since long.

In her tweet, the minister said that the "situation in Tripoli is deteriorating fast," and that flights are operational currently. So, the Indians stuck there should take advantage of the same and leave the violence-torn city right now, she hinted. Earlier this month, an Indian contingent of 15 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, part of the peacekeeping force, was evacuated from Tripoli.
The crisis began during the Arab Spring Protests in 2011
The Libyan crisis can be traced back to the Arab Spring protests in 2011. After two civil wars and interventions by several foreign Armed forces, the UN brokered ceasefire agreement in December 2015, and a new government was formed, with PM Fayez al-Sarraj as its head. Amid clashes between the government and rebel troops, the violence in Tripoli worsened during the month of April.
Government issues arrest warrant against Haftar and six others
A strike was launched by the troops of renegade military leader, Khalifa Haftar, to throw out Sarraj, the UN-backed Prime Minister, from power. Since last week, the unrest killed over 205 and around 913 were left injured. As per reports, the government issued an arrest warrant on Thursday against Haftar and six of his officials for carrying out the attacks in the civilian areas.
