This video will definitely make you quit smoking
Remember the advertisement showing how squeezing the lungs of smoker results in tar that can make one sick, very sick? Well, if smokers thought it was all a hoax, a new video doing rounds of Facebook highlights the differences between a smoker's and non-smoker's lungs. The video posted by Amanda Eller, a nurse has garnered over 4 crore views, and 70,000 shares.
Lungs of smokers lose their elasticity
Eller showed her experiment by using a black colored dummy lung of a smoker, and a healthy one of a non-smoker. When air was pumped, the healthy lung inflated completely and went back to its usual size after a while. The lung of the smoker lost its elasticity. This means air cannot reach the lungs of the smokers properly.
Eller explains how cancerous lungs don't have 'anything'
"These lungs are COPD lungs, cancerous lungs. The elasticity has gone, so they stretch out but the recoil of them just snaps right back because there's nothing to help hold them open. You can see how fast they deflate," explains the nurse in the video.
Soon, cigarette packs will have helpline number
A few weeks ago, the Union ministry of health and family welfare passed an order which makes quit-helpline number mandatory on cigarette packs. Following the order, almost 85% area of the packet will carry warnings, numbers, and images, and will come to effect from September 1, 2018. The hotline number 1800-11-2356 will be printed along with messages like 'Tobacco Causes Painful Death'.
