Condom-snorting to blue-whale: Six stupid and deadly Internet challenges
Earlier, being a teen meant having new ideas, seeing things through a new lens, and having the zeal to dent the universe. Sadly, the trend has now shifted to participating in life-threatening Internet challenges, in hope to get a few likes. But, do kids realize what they put at stake? Here's looking at six ridiculous Internet-challenges and the threats they pose.
Condom-snorting challenge: Kids, that's not how you use a condom
The filthiest challenge teens participated in is the condom-snorting challenge. As a part of it, they snorted an unwrapped condom through the nose and pulled it out through mouth or pharynx. The chances of one getting choked by it are exceptionally high. Also, inhaling a condom can be extremely painful and can affect the lungs in irreparable ways.
Blue-whale challenge: Putting one's life at risk, literally
The blue whale challenge took Internet anonymity to unimaginable levels. Those who participated in it communicated with an administrator who gave them one task daily for 50 days. From asking participants to listen to music on day one, the lethal challenge demanded them to jump off a building on day 50. The challenge claimed many lives across the globe.
Deodorant challenge: Haven't teens heard excess of anything is dangerous?
As a part of the deodorant challenge, teens sprayed deodorant from an aerosol directly on their skin to test how long they can bear it. The challenge gave a 10-year-old British girl second-degree burns. Her mother posted frightening images of her arm on Facebook to warn other parents about it. Dear teens, can you tell us where is the fun in inflicting pain?
Tide-pod challenge: If only they helped in washing clothes
Just when one thought, teens couldn't give new definition to stupidity, they came up with the tide-pod challenge. Kids dared each other to eat detergent, and record it. Few took it to the next level by cooking it in frying pans before consuming it. Eating detergents can change blood pressure and even result in losing consciousness and give seizures.
Fire challenge: The trend that left teens in hospital beds
Totally ignoring the phrase 'Don't play with fire', teens did just that in the fire challenge. They sprayed poured flammable liquids on themselves and lit it. Then, if they were unharmed (an unlikely probability) they uploaded videos with #FireChallenge. A 12-year-old New York boy was admitted with third-degree burns after the challenge in 2016. Do we need to say more?
Salt and Ice challenge: Definitely, not a healthy combination
Another challenge which became a rage among teens is the salt and ice challenge. Teens put salt and ice on naked skin and recorded how long they can put up with the burning sensation. Participating in this challenge made them vulnerable to frostbite, second-degree burns, and even painful, permanent scars. Really kids, what are you doing with your lives?
